Training and Employment Physical Rehabilitation Professionals: Problems and Prospects

The article focuses on the development of foreign and home rehabilitation, as well as the problems and prospects of future employment and training specialist rehabilitation.

In Ukraine the specialty «Physical Rehabilitation» was apparently forming in the mid 90-s of XX century. Largely this is due to the expansion of contacts and exchange experiences with health authorities in foreign countries. It should be noted that the foundation served as a great experience with the use of gymnastics gained in the former USSR, even since the Second World War.

Rehabilitation specialist today are prepared by more than 20 Ukrainian universities mostly subordinated the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

Now Ukrainian students have the opportunity to study the field of «Health», getting a profession expert physical rehabilitation or valeologist-teacher. Before the educational qualification of «bachelor», a significant difference in the list of subjects does not exist.

However, training-rehabilitator in Ukraine faces a number of problems:

1. Lack of textbooks and teaching (teaching) benefits from many disciplines in physical rehabilitation.

2. Inadequate training equipment cabinets to clinical practice in some institution.

3. In many universities there is limited opportunity to students-rehabilitators in selecting bases to undergo training and undergraduate practices that dramatically reduces training.

4. Insufficient number of faculty members who are certified or certified professionals of health (not medicine) A number of institutions of higher education trains specialists in physical rehabilitation.

However, there are positive aspects in further employment status and formation of Ukrainian rehabilitators. Ukrainian Association of physical therapy seeks change the name «physical rehabilitation specialist» to «physical therapist», empowering these professionals, their greater autonomy.In addition, the authors have made proposals to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, to create jobs for rehabilitators in schools with inclusive and integrated education. This initiative is supported by the Kirovograd Regional Institute of Postgraduate Education named after Vasil Sukhomlynsky.
