The article analyzes professional development of young people with visual impairments in domestic and foreign science. Training seniors and students with profound visual impairments has serious difficulties in different countries gaining special weight in Ukraine. Low employment of blind shows that the efforts and achievements made to date are not sufficiently successful. An important condition for enhancing the efficiency of professional activities of impaired and blind people is psychological support. We have designed and carried out a psychological training in 2009 in Zaporizhia, the purpose of which was to develop the ability of self-determining life goals, self-projection of the future, defining the scope of professional activities of people with visual impairments. The training helped the young blind realize their life goals and future profession. It emphasizes on creating a positive image of the blind individual in society for their successful employment through public service announcements, etc. Professional orientation in the special (correctional) schools for persons with visual impairments should be aimed at identifying opportunities for blind and impaired students in further education and obtaining information about the prospects of their professional interests, as well as at positive examples of such people getting professional education.

Direct contacts with successful blind in professional activities are essential for creating their positive image.

The mentioned activity is aimed at improving employers’ awareness as to skills and capabilities of blind to overcome social stereotypes and myths about blindness and reduce psychological barriers in establishing cooperation in recruitment.

However, it should be emphasized that the integration of young people with serious visual impairments into society will have positive results in terms of scientific development and practical implementation of a range of actions that include measures of medical, educational, social and psychological support of impaired and blind young people in their professional self-realization and integration in public relations.
